make it funky…

once more it’s time for a cool youtubeo. this time it’s drummer Stanton Moore with his band performing. i wanted to post a live video of him but couldn’t find anything with decent quality – too bad. but anyway, this is as funky as it gets…. enjoy

wow, it’s getting productive….

still not really news here :-) again working on the rpm-album but now i kind of entered the flow. until about an hour ago i had one song – yes, the one with the meatbucket (still scared…) and now i’m up to 5! only one of them recorded, but the others do already exist in [...]

still not really news here :-) again working on the rpm-album but now i kind of entered the flow. until about an hour ago i had one song – yes, the one with the meatbucket (still scared…) and now i’m up to 5! only one of them recorded, but the others do already exist in my head (complete) and in my laptop (pieces that i need to put together). but once a vision of a song exists, the rest is just….uhm…the rest :-) so i’m confident that i will finish the album in time. and for the record: since it has to be shipped from germany to the usa, i don’t have 28 days – more like 14. don’t really know how long shipping takes but i guess it’ll take at least 7-10 days. so writing and recording 10 songs in about 14 days! that’s quite a challenge – and i’m gonna make it, yeah! take that, world!
and now, bring it on!!!

the meatbucket….

that’s right. the laptop battery runs out, so here’s just this info: the first song of my rpm-challenge-album is almost done and it’s called “a bucket full of meat” – and to be honest, i don’t know if i like what this let-your-inspiration-flow-and-follow-wherever-it-may-lead-you-kind-of-thing tells me about myself…..

the craftsman-syndrome…

every now and then i experience something i’d like to call the craftsman-syndrome – usually when i’m working on new material, like right at the moment… i want it to be outstanding, something special – so nothing that comes to my mind is good enough, no matter what it is. some of these ideas could [...]

every now and then i experience something i’d like to call the craftsman-syndrome – usually when i’m working on new material, like right at the moment…

i want it to be outstanding, something special – so nothing that comes to my mind is good enough, no matter what it is. some of these ideas could become huge hits, who knows, but i don’t let them. i just say ‘nah’ and wipe them away. on the one hand it might be good to have some kind of quality control but this sucker prevents me from creating anything. have you ever been to the home of a craftsman? those guys build formidable stuff every day but their homes often look like junkyards or building sites. they could finish it in an instant but they want it to be awesome or stunning. the point is: this way it will never be finished. never ever. exactly like the material i’m trying to create.

now the thing that made Einstein the genius that he was, was not the ONE great idea. it was unbelievable productivity. the same goes for Mozart, DaVInci etc. those guys didn’t just have great ideas. they put such a huge amount of ideas out there, that some of them just had to be milestones. meaning if i would stop worrying about every idea not being good enough and just put them to paper or tape instead, i’d be much better off……

sorry to waste your time with this, maybe i shouldn’t have published this entry, it doesn’t seem to be worth it………….

writing songs by the dozen…

right now i’m buried deep in the creative process of my rpm-challenge album. i wrote lots of songs over the years but now i wanted to try something new (for me). so i’m just recording everything that crosses my mind – or fingers for that matter – a wild chaos of bits and pieces. all [...]

right now i’m buried deep in the creative process of my rpm-challenge album. i wrote lots of songs over the years but now i wanted to try something new (for me). so i’m just recording everything that crosses my mind – or fingers for that matter – a wild chaos of bits and pieces. all kinds of stuff. and tomorrow i’ll try to select the usable ones and throw them together somehow in order to get songs. i really don’t know if this is working but it’s great fun and for some reason all i come up with sounds more or less somewhat in between Tom Waits and Leonard Cohen. scares the hell outta me…
